Why 31.5 days? I thought it was a constant 16 for not-admitted multiple accounts..

There's a 2x ban multiplier that applies to "players who should have known better".

Er, that was my mistake.  I'm too used to typing "32" in that box.

There's a 2x ban multiplier that applies to "players who should have known better".

If he NEVER used the old account, the committee may let it slide with just a warning.

Are you asking for 'a friend' atmays?  If so, tell you friend to throw himself on the mercy of the cou- err committee...

Haha atmays, thats no problem. We've already come across numerous cases where people have accidentally registered accounts and never used them (for various reasons). These accounts usually just get deleted.

Not trying to narc here, but the whole register and not use thing isnt applicable here >.> solate was his account for [ i ] while dirtytaco was of course for [20ID]

jitspoe can you delete my second account so I don't try too, mess up and get rebanned by this awesome committee that I unconditionally respect and admire.

It would've been nice if you genius's had made it clear in some obvious place that having two accounts was a ban-able offense.

Like, the massive 1 account only tickbox when you register the account?

BANNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNN EVASIONNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNN.

Has the tickbox always been there? Is it in a clear and distinguished place? Or is it in the midst of a bunch of other BS no one ever reads and just clicks the box so they can register, much like those 'agree to terms and conditions' things? Basically, what should've been done was a stickied forum thread with a listing of known ban-able offenses.

The point is, if i had any idea that having two accounts would result in a global ban, I would've never considered making another one. I didn't know offending loial by aliasing was a capital offense worthy of a global ban.

Oh and bob, I'm not evading. I asked to be unbanned so I could post my new map, but then after not being able to beta test it last night because of being globally banned for such a stupid reason, I decided the DP community doesn't deserve it.

Are you trying to tell me more people would see a forum thread than would see something they have to explicitly click to agree to before registering an account?

Are you trying to say you've sat and read every "I agree to these terms" boxes you've clicked for every program you've had to install?

No? How did you get that from my comment?

Title: Re: Multiple Accounts: [20ID]DirtyTaco, solate

That's exactly what you're talking about. The agreement page where you have to check the boxes saying you agree to the terms where it says you're only allowed on account and upon fracturing those rules you'll be globally banned. Where as a forum, where you're going to actually read something, is where you'd see it.
Title: Re: Multiple Accounts: [20ID]DirtyTaco, solate
Post by: lekky on October 25, 2007, 05:25:56 PM
But how many of the 30000+ people who have registered a global login account will read the forums? Thats the point I'm trying to make.

And to be fair, the creating a new account page is nothing like those masses of licensing pages when you have to agree to when you install software, etc.

Post by: James on October 25, 2007, 05:28:32 PM
That's the point I'm making, the logic you both have is flawed. Assuming people actually read the agreement, and the fact that people come to the forum to read the ban list.
Title: Re: Multiple Accounts: [20ID]DirtyTaco, solate
Post by: lekky on October 25, 2007, 05:30:48 PM
Right? I'm trying to say that as it is now, that is people having to read 1 paragraph and selecting a tick box to agree is better than making a forum thread. How is that logic flawed?

Edit: Jitspoe has added a new box on the registration page, which should not give anyone an excuse.

I'll right it out in letters you might be able to comprehend and read it.

NO ONE READS THE TERMS OF AGREEMENT.

Now re-read that a few dozen times, then apply it to what you're saying and find the flaw. Just because they see it doesn't mean they're going to read it.

If you want proof, search the forums for multiple accounts and count how many people have been banned for it, then try to tell me all of them knowingly did it and knew they'd get banned.

Since when was that ever my point? Maybe you should read my posts before trying to reply to them.

Maybe you should try proof reading and making changes to what you type before you send them. I know exactly what your point is I'm just bored and feel like messing with you. What you should of said is something along the lines of this.

Quote
How is a forum post more effective then having the terms of agreement there. Not everyone who plays this game goes to the forums to see how they will get banned for breaking the rules. By having those terms of agreement there there is some kind of incentive to them knowing there are rules.

I'm not going to quote anything you've said because you've already done it so many times.

If you don't read it, it's your fault.  Rules are rules, whether you chose to read them or not, they are still there.  By clicking the check boxes you say that you have read what the rules are.  Period.

maybe there should be a little quiz after reading the "terms" just to make sure non of this happens again. :D. BTW i never read that junk, but i've read enough forum threads to know it will lead to a ban.

and yet the forum is mainly being visited by people who have been with the game a while and who are involved in the community to some extent. Which is a fairly small amount. While everyone has to run across that checkbox (whether he reads the context or not), not many will read the according threads in the forum.

what about coding something like.. instead of having the rules on the activation process have a link to the thread on the forum. but it wont let them continue until they actually open the link. whether or not the chose to read the rules is entirely up to them. but this way there will be no excuse for not knowing this and that.

There is now an extra box where you have to type in how many accounts you're allowed before proceeding. Don't see the need for anything extra.

that works. but how about still showing a link to a more thorough list of things that you can be banned for?
