Sounds like a lot of work but it is very useful in other games such as Crysis and Unreal Tournament 3.

why not just click on the link in the game and the game will automatically shut down and opens dpball.com on IE? isn't that what the current setup is?

I've been thinking of something like this for most of the common kick messages, explaining things like:

Incorrect password
Name registered to somebody else
Server requires logins
Global ban
Server full

etc.

and possibly having links to open up sites or documentation to explain the reason for the kick.  I'm not sure if this is what you're asking or not.  It sounds like you're asking for a way to open up sites within the game.  There's no way I'm going to write an in-game HTML rendering engine, though, and using an existing one would make the game way too bloated.

The alternative is building the GUI in the game and just sending the required requests to the web server for registration.

Yeah, but I prefer to force people to visit the website, so they at least know it exists.

force them, jits! force them! :D

just shut the game down and open IE up to the correct page
Name registration -> login page
global ban -> reason for ban page
THAT would save a lot of people complaining "why am i banned?"

We need an "Ingame account registration".

A "QuickRegister" is enough. Only username, email and password.

And a link to manage the account on the website.

http://dplogin.com/dplogin/featurevote/feature.php?id=10154

There are a few things I don't like about having the registration in-game:

a) It doesn't expose people to the website.
b) Trying to get all of the information for the agreement to fit in-game will be a pain and will require several pages of menus.
c) The player has to exit the game and access email to activate the account anyway, so there's not really much gained by having it in-game.
d) Lots of people have HTTP access blocked or run through proxies (found this out when using the server list via HTTP).  It could be rewritten to use UDP, but that's just more code to write.
e) There will be a lot more unused accounts.  People will download the game, register, and never play again.  Then later on I'll get people bugging me to let them have the names.  It will probably increase multi-accounting as well.

a) force them to the web site to register
b) see (a)
c) inevitable
d) you can't please everyone, the goal here is to get users registered AND get to the web site.
e) I don't think so if you use (a) above.

f) you can do your hardware id checks, ip checks, checks against the ban list, and email checks all at the same time.

I'm confused - you want in-game registration that forces them to the website?  How is that any different than what is done already?

If you want them to visit the web site, during the game installation, you could have them go to a web site ( force their broswer open, register a name, then have a code based on their registered name or something that they have to enter in game to continue the install.

Just throwing ideas out there.

So force them to register an account just to install?  I like that idea even less...

If you want to maintain the gls, control the hacking, and other unforeseen events, I believe it would be a wise idea.

It only makes sense, to me at least, to register the game ( you nick ) at time of installation, similar to what most commercial games require you to do.

I won't bring it up again, but I would remove my vote for vwep to vote for this type of functionality. And I've been waiting for vwep for many many years.

Merging two duplicate request threads. The earlier of the two (the posts dated January) wasn't ever added to the feature vote page.
