Requires: New map format (Most likely)

I'm just throwing it out there... I'm sure Jitspoe will see it and throw it right out the window Smiley

Bump mapping takes a normal mesh, but calculates each pixel's shading in reference to height map so that the texture appears to be 3D.

This'd be nice, but would require lots of reworking of the pball/ctp textures.
Well, not so much reworking as just additional work.

It should probably be implemented at some point.  A map format with deluxe mapping or real time lighting would be necessary to use it on maps, but normal maps could potentially be used on models.

I like this idea.  Little things like this could make a big difference.

Need more votes people!  Textures could would look like this: http://i8.photobucket.com/albums/a7/dkh2/bump_mapping.png - I reallly think this should be a top priority for anyone who makes maps.

How about a with and without shot so that others can really see teh difference?

If this is done, with the (relatively) simple addition of parallax mapping, this is what it could look like:

Catch with bump mapping is you either need real time lighting or something stored in the lightmap that maintains the light direction (like deluxemaps).  In other words, they'd basically require a new map format unless they were only applied to models.
