Feature: Short URL for DPLogin clan pages
« on: August 08, 2010, 04:51:32 AM »
I've made a short URL you can use to access any clan page.

http://bantero.us/dpclan/xxx (where xxx is the id # of your clan)

like: http://bantero.us/dpclan/11810

Downside is that the script for translating these URLs is on my ViciouZ's personal webspace. If jits could make something like it on dplogin.com, we could just use that and throw Snipr out altogether. It would look much better that way.

For example, it could look like: http://clans.dplogin.com/xxx
which is much more official-looking.

Can someone move it to the "Feature Votes" board?

Good idea. Would also be good for the players.

http://clan.dplogin.com/clanid or
http://clans.dplogin.com/clanid

http://player.dplogin.com/clanid or
http://players.dplogin.com/clanid

that can be implemented very quickly, i don't even think there should be a vote on it.

Hmm, that means memorizing clan id's. How about give the option in the clan creation page, where we can make a /________ name for the link, such as type /team_y  and it will be dplogin.com/team_y.

Or what about a team fan page, where people can leave comments, and like eachother's comments, and post photo's and video's, and we can create events for our team, and then invite other teams/players to it.    :)

Yeah... I'll get right on that! :P

Actually, WarWulf (unibonger) has had an idea for something like that for a while -- he just hasn't developed it yet.

This short URL thing is down atm because I've moved my site to a new server and haven't set everything up yet.

Actually, I just uploaded the code for this thing to banterous, so you can now use: http://bantero.us/dpclan/xxx

Unfortunately, Snipr seems to have changed their code: now, any address that sends back an HTTP Location header will be replaced in their database with the address it redirects to -- which breaks my script thing. Updated original post to reflect the change.
