Build 32
« on: February 21, 2011, 07:19:19 PM »
Mostly just bug fixes and in-game server browser improvements.

Please run the pretests and check for any new issues.

Edit: Official build is out.  It is exactly the same as the pretest, so no need to re-downolad if you installed the pretest.  For those that don't have it, grab it on the files page: http://www.digitalpaint.org/files/

I would like to see more "mostly just bug fixes" builds :P

But i don't like the scream from the new "gothit6.wav".

Updated our servers, but havn't had time to test the client very much. I'll do that later.

Edit: If there are bugs, that you make a pretest2: You can update the serverbrowser, if you want. A "new" version should be in the cvs, but its not so important to make another pretest just for it.

How exactly does new server browser tweak work? I noted that servers with many players are shifted to the top, but it's not directly sorting.

Maybe this helps a little bit
On the serverlist sorting, the idea is to put the "best" servers near the top of the list.  Sometimes you'd be better off joining an empty server and waiting for players than trying to play on a server that has 5-6x's the ping.  In practice, the ping differences aren't usually that extreme, so populated servers will be at the top of the list, and maybe a couple high-ping servers with 1 or 2 people may show up below an empty low ping server or two.

Aww, the Wilhelm scream is a film classic: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cdbYsoEasio

It puts a smile on my face every time I hear it.  Seems you dislike every new death sound.  What kind of death sounds do you like?

Servers are sorted by players/ping, so a server with a good ping might show up above a server with more people on it that has a higher ping.

Never heard about it before...

That i dislike each new death sound isn't true. The other one, i dislike is start/start8.wav :P
Did we had other new death sounds in the last few years? Can't remember. Only new weapon, smoke grenade, footstep, splat, water and chat sounds, which i like very much (especially the footstep and smoke grenade sounds). You did a great job with them. They really make the game much better, but this two sounds (gothit6, start8) are not my friends. Can't say what kind of death sounds i like. I'll look some videos and play some other games at weekend. Maybe i'll find some interesting sounds.

Edit:
It's like every shooter ever made: http://www.nofrag.com/2011/fev/02/36854/
It's not a real death sound, but this "boring" sound would be funny (+ a command to enable/disable it).

You didn't like this one, either: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LbittLn84cY

Has anybody tested the Linux client yet?

Since it doesn't look like there are any new issues with it, I'll try to put out an official release tonight.

And what about that failed build check? I didnt try the official build 32 release, but i am sure this occured on alpha 32. I will try that as i get home because i know on wich maps it occures often.
Or is it server-side fix?

Server-side fix.  Bug the server admins to update. :)

I'm going to try re-uploading that one.  The others worked OK?

Lol, yes. I forgot that one, but i don't really hear it very often or i only don't notice it anymore. How long searched you for it? :D

"Windows Full" and "Linux Patch" are damaged and the src is a little bit bigger than normal. The other two files are ok.

Ugh, wtf?  The full install worked last night.  I downloaded it and installed before posting the news update.  Now it's only 13megs.  I guess I'll have to upload it again.  I hate the new sf.net upload interface.  The files almost always fail.

Everything works now.

I've a suggestion for the next build.

maybe an idea for the next build:

when you use the update file, it [edit] currently [/edit] creates a new desktop shortcut at the end of the installation, instead of replacing the old one

how is that better than the current way?

Sorry Webhead, I expressed myself unclear. This is the current way, which should be changed for the future. The old shortcut should be overwritten.
