Feature: Ghost mode
« on: March 06, 2011, 06:47:19 AM »
It would be cool to have an ability to turn a ghost mode on/off, in that collisions with other players could be disabled via cvar.

It could bring some variability to the game, it would also be pretty much a must for jump servers (which do exist and people play on them in spite of "pb2 is not a jump mod" mantra, repeated dozens of times) without blocking and getting stuck in portals.

+1. but players should only become ghosts when another player gets to close to them. and only for jump servers because in a pub it would just be merry.

If player collision is disabled, you wouldn't be able to shoot players, either.

My focus though were collisions between players, which are highly unwelcome on jump servers when one player is blocking a narrow path or standing so that you're gonna accidentally hit him on your way. It can also manifest itself on teleports done wrong, where multiple players get stuck.

Shooting is pretty irrelevant on those.

Last time I checked, it was like this. I couldn't shoot anyone stuck @multispawn on arm.

Feature in topic is sth completely different.

What use does this have in a paintball game, though?  Why would you want to be able to run around and not collide with or shoot anybody?

It's for jump servers mostly. And what's up with "no shooting" part? I only mentioned no collisions with other players.

He wants a whole server setting just for jump servers, so people can't block each other, which would be a waste of time to work on...

It is too bad there isn't a way to turn off collisions with a player and another player, but not a player and a paintball, pong ball, walls/obstacles, floors, ceilings, etc.

This has been a topic for years now and clearly jitspoe does not intend on doing it. I understand his reasoning. I also understand the players reasoning who don't want to buy q2 and install the jump mod (which would be my suggestion). The textures don't show up to well on DP.

I don't know how difficult it would be to code this I assume its not terribly difficult and could be done but....................................... THIS IS NOT A BIG ISSUE FOR THIS GAME SO LEAVE IT ALONE!!!

Ah, screw it.

Give people ability to make mods and problem solves itself - somebody will write it.

Nevermind then.

Paintball2-AimBot, Paintball2-WH, Paintball2-SpeedHack - that Will be names of this 'mods'.
But there is possibility that you can solve this: You can modify code and send patch to jitspoe, if it's good he will include it...

Not even close.

for alternate meaning of "mod". Besides, this would be a server side mod, and not a client side one.

If i understand you good, there is difference with 'mod' and 'mode'...

Creating mod API for servers won't be easy and i guess no one will create mods (if you know how to program then you join development team, else you can't create mod). So mods are not good idea if everyone can join paintball dev team. And that is at least 10x easier to add patch like 'ghost mode' than creating API to create mod... If noone will create more.
