Build 35
« on: January 09, 2012, 06:22:02 PM »
Hopefully this is the last build before I make a full public release.  This addresses a couple physics issues from Build 34, and I knocked a couple small things off of the feature vote as well.

Client:
- Bugfix: Fixed jittering/bouncing against angled walls on slopes.
- Bugfix: Fixed jumping on ramps with low ceilings not going up high enough and giving you a weird boost.
- Bugfix: Fixed the game taking mouse focus when it didn't start up in the foreground (Win32). 12:06 AM 1/6/2012
- Tweak: Reduced accel on ramps with the new physics (should behave more like the old physics).
- Tweak: Limited the length of names on the client to 30 characters so they don't get cut off on the server and cause logins to fail. 9:20 PM 1/8/2012
- Tweak: Limited menu sounds to once per frame so there isn't a really loud sound when you first launch the game. 12:45 AM 1/9/2012
- Cvar: "s_disableonalttab" - Disabling this now works with the default DirectSound sound.  Disabled by default so you can hear sound from the game while you're alt-tabbed out. 12:02 AM 1/6/2012

Game DLL:
- Fixed name formatting not being ended cleanly. 2:25 AM 1/7/2012
- Added message when you tban if the IP is already banned.
- Teamnumbers for all entities are swapped between rounds in Siege mode (except players and paint, of course). 11:10 PM 1/8/2012

Win32:

He is fixing the bugs and allowing everything to be tested before he does a full public release.

It'd be more confusing if he just kept releasing build 33 pretests.

in think eh means why doesn't he just make the changes and just updated the Build 33 or w/e it was. the answer tot hat i think is so that all of the changes are chronicled so that when someone 100 years from now finds this game and wonders how it was built it can be categorized by changes per build.

That's a really good tweak. There are often players with this problem :)

What video card and OS do you have?  What resolution are you running the game at, and what resolution is your desktop?  How are you switching between full screen and windowed mode?

Alt tab makes the game stop rendering and then eventually causes an error that shuts it down. Fiddling with the s_disableonalttab command doesn't fix it. Didn't have this issue with b34.

Windows 7 32bit. Fullscreen mode, same 1200p resolution as in desktop.

About the physics. I'm happy with them, but I think it would be better if crouchsliding was on by default because it kinda fixes the "I want to slide down this ramp" problem.

Ummm well if it happened with joonas too (and as he said it wasn't happening with b34) i don't think its my graphics card, so ill skip that.

my resolution is 1920x1080 full screen and it was going to 1440x900. i would be playing full screen and id get a pm on irc so i would hit escape and click on irc (this wouldnt cause dp to minimize yet) after i would be done on irc, i would click back to dp (which would then minimize to the 1400 resolution then crash. hope that helps.

EDIT: This chain of events i have described above is nothing out of the ordinary for me to do, been doing that since b16 so im pretty sure its the build

Does it have the issue if you click the maximize button while in windowed mode and play in maximized windowed mode?  What if you set the paintball2 resolution to the same as your windows resolution?  What OS are you running?  What, exactly, are you pressing?  Hitting "esc" doesn't bring you out of full screen mode.  You have to press alt-enter or alt-tab.  I've tried both of those and haven't been able to repro the crash.  Video card still matters, even if somebody else has the crash - he might have the same video card as you.  The more info, the better. :)

I actually looked at the error now, and it complained about my d3d9.dll file. The error disappeared once I changed it, but the game still refuses to render after I've alt-tabbed from it. My OS and video drivers are really bugged, so it's quite possible for that to have something to do with it. Jitspoe, try to see if you can get the error with the opengl32.dll file I emailed you (date: 22.07.2011).

Trying to go to window mode after it stops rendering won't work, but I can minimize the game just fine if it's in window mode before alt-tabbing.

NVIDIA GeForce 9800 gt. what i do is i hit console button so that i can move my mouse freely. i then click my irc client at the bottom of the screen. that opens, i type in it. i then click back to dp at which time it shrinks
(i like it that small so that when im pubbing or w/e i can jst see whos pming me i dont have to do what i mentioned above) the game then crashes. no time to try what you're saying will do later

EDIT: windows 7 os

I had a crash (windows must close paintball2.exe message), but i can't reproduce it :(
I don't think, they help, but here are the informations from windows:
Code: [Select]
Fehlerhafte Anwendung paintball2.exe

Zeitstempel 0x4f0b4cdc
fehlerhaftes Modul opengl32.dll_unloaded

Edit:
Can you change the taskbar preview window (while the game is minimized) to an actual ingame image?

Foxhound: In your first post you said you were getting the crash while playing full screen, but from your later description (bringing up the console then clicking on another window), it sounds like you're playing in windowed mode.

T3RR0R15T: What video card & OS do you have, and what were you doing when it crashed?  A preview is unlikely, as the game doesn't render when minimized and Windows 7 doesn't play nice with OpenGL.  Do any other games do this?

Video card: XFX GTX 280
OS: Windows Vista Ultimate x64 SP2

I tested Alt-Tab to switch between Desktop and Paintball a few times (was on a server to hear the sounds in windows). After switching back to the game, i did nothing for around 10 seconds. Then i heared the popup sound of the "windows must close paintball2.exe message". It shows me the game, the message was in the background. I don't know why anymore (maybe Alt-Tab or the windows key didn't worked?), but i had to open the task manager to get out of the game / close the task with the message.

Build 35 is a lot better with the physics... I really like crouch sliding.

T3RR0R15T: The minimized thing works for me, maybe it works under Win 7?

Maybe a bug in win vista. Other games don't work too, but VLC does.
