[Feature] Jump Mod
« on: January 16, 2012, 07:39:17 PM »
I know I keep saying "This is not a jump mod," but it seems the jump servers have become just as popular as the regular servers, now, and with some of the recent physics tweaks, it's not exactly Quake2 anymore.

A Digital Paint jump mod would be designed to be more compatible with the Paintball2 engine and assets.  We might be able to use an existing jump mod as a base.  I'm thinking eventually it would be cool to have something like Trackmania where there would be both individual and team-based racing modes.

Can't wait :p

I know that it's still in the voting phase, but still:
-Have you thought about the maplist yet? edit: Are unlit or otherwise bad looking maps allowed? etc.

-Will there be stat tracking? If yes, are you going to have a unified stat tracking system based on the global login, or will stats be unique to every server like how it's done in q2jump?

Also:

are there gonna be checkpoints, well defined start/finish markers and measuring, how much time it took you?

Because whole idea is grand to me.

Laugh at terrorist voting no.

Maybe you should implement a texture rotating mod to make him happy.

Anyways, I think this is a good feature to implement.

Laugh at terrorist voting no.

There's really nothing bad that could come from this there's no reason to vote no.

A few things would completely needed otherwise it wouldn't be worth it:

-A clear way to have timing that is used in exactly the same way on every map. Maybe something like a semi-transparent block that you have to pass through in order to finish the level, and simply having a movement key being pressed to start the level.

-A universal scoring system. This is really what makes the q2 servers so great. Times on individual maps don't mean much without an online, or even in game way to track who is doing the best overall.

-Those two are the main things to implement if you made it, but things like being able to view replays, storing points in the map, and being able to have admins modify maps while in them if there is a mistake.

it would be cool to have something like Trackmania where there would be both individual and team-based racing modes.

The team based scoring would a cool way to separate from the quake 2 jump mods that exist already. You could have a separate part on dplogin for a jump group, or just use your existing clan. I think a separation would be ideal though.

I don't like it and there are other (more important) things to do i my opinion, so i voted against it. Where is the problem?

Why should i want a rotating texture?

No its KBjump mod, not that one its alot better has admin systems, like lvl 1-10, each lvl you complete you get certain privileges for instance lv4 is +hook and lvl5 is noclip. It has a login system as well, seeing we already have one you can probably just combine them.

If you ever played on Azboks jump server back in the day you would understand.
