NEW GANGSTER MAP: UNRATED'S BIG ISLAND (Screaaaamssss)

Whilst on Unrated's Big Island, you will be staying with tops of 7 other people fighting for YO LYFE. Tunnel into the sand like those Sand Nigguhs everyone is talking about and hold a paint grenade and BOOOOM, 7 kills. Remember, in games you can respawn, real life.... yeah, you saw 911. Terrain is actually the only thing I find fun about mapping nowadays :(

Actually ended up being more fun than I expected.  I like fighting over 1 lowend weapon on the map, but not having extra CO2, so you can only get a few shots off before you have to reload.

Some things to fix/suggestions:
- Spawns in water that face away from the island.
- Cliff walls on the edge of the island (sand doesn't work like that, and it's frustrating for gameplay).
- Phong shading if possible.  you'll probably have to scale up the textures (you could probably scale the ones under water up a lot and nobody will notice - will reduce r_speeds as well).
- Vis issues (tree and certain parts of the map disappearing).
- Scale up the water to reduce r_speeds.
- Try to adjust terrain so it doesn't split up so much, or make use of advanced compilers and tricks such as detail hint brushes, I think, to cut down on the splitting.
- Maybe if you scale the water texture up, you could scale the water further out as well...
- Find a fitting tropical skybox?
- Add a 12gram pickup on the off chance somebody runs completely out of CO2.

The one included with the BSP pack has some enhancements - not sure if it supports the detail hint brush trick or not.  Look for the one that people use with gensurf.

Great idea, but very hard to create such a complex map properly.

There's not much more to say in additional of jitspoe's feedback at the moment.

The barrel/s have a wrong bottom texture.

This answers your question about the phong shading.
All you have to do to make something phong shaded is apply a light value (but don't check the light flag).  Everything with that value will be shaded together.

To fix the vis issues, you can also try to make that parts of the map less complex. Sometimes it helps just moving brushes a few units around (e.g. raise up some places a few units). They're really annoying, because they destroy the nice look of the map.

I hope you can fix all the vis issues and improve the splitting/r_speeds. It's a hard job.
