Holiday Tourney [Completed 1-3]
« on: November 05, 2014, 06:26:21 PM »
Congrats vT [picky, rockitude, prozajik] on winning the tournament! You guys get servers hosted by Clipz and $250 USD.

Special thanks to Clipz and JMR for hosting servers, Myers for help with coordination, blaa for blaa, and a very special thanks for everyone that participated or showed interest.

Results can be seen at http://dpholidaytourney.com.

Sign your team up here.  I'll probably leave the signups open until we start the tournament.

The dates of the tournament will be Jan 3rd. and Jan 4th.  The tournament will start at 12 PM EST each day, unless the teams scheduled to play all show up early.  Half of the tournament will be played on Jan. 3rd and if possible some of the 2nd half will be played on Jan. 3rd, time and player availability permitting, while the rest will occur on Jan. 4th.

Please provide the following:
Email - Each player
IRC Name - Each player
Team Name
Players (3 minimum, 2 subs allowed)

RULES -

No cheating, ofc.  This not only applies to hacking, but purposeful disconnects, server admin abuse, etc.

Rounds are best of 3, normal matching.  Servers will be clan prozak and JMR's EU.  Each team will choose their own map.  Each team is allowed one map reset per best of 3 map match before the match begins by both teams joining on the appropriate colors.  Tie maps will be chosen elimination style from the map pool.  The team that gets the most points on the maps leading to a tie gets to pick the server of the approved servers to play it on.  The team that does not get to pick the server gets to pick the color on the tie map.  A team can not pick the same map consecutively in matches.  For instance, if a team picks crimethink for a match, then for the next map they must select something else.  Two, or four, of the maps will not be announced until the day of the tournament.

Prize - $250 USD for the winning team.  Cold hard cash, in the form of a Visa gift card or paypal.  Split up how every many ways as players on the winning team, unless requested otherwise.

In addition to the cash prize, Clipz will host match servers for the winning team.

na servers or eu?

Both.  Teams can agree before the match how to handle which one is which, or if they can't decide then the team who gets the most points on the map they won gets tie map on their server.

Would recommend to ONLY use servers with new build. (new physics)

If you're running a tournament, might as well promote what Jitspoe has done. Most servers already have this, but Prozak's do not. Would recommend avoiding Prozak servers unless they update. (it's also annoying if playing versus europeans, switching servers from one ping to another, plus one physics to another). Keep it steady with the most updated builds.

Also, when is the date coming out? Personally would prefer 3rd/4th weekend of January. Gives plenty of time to prepare, still during the holidays, and avoids everyone's differing schedules with their families/friends right around Christmas.

I wouldn't consider the end of January a holiday. I think you're going to be disappointed if you hope for that late of a date. That would basically be the start of the semester for most students and would still have work. The point of a tournament during December is that people won't have work/school during most of it.

END of january? 3rd/4th is start of January.

Look at the calendar before responding.

Most people get a 2 week holiday, the week of Christmas and the week of New Years. This falls within that 2 week span. I would imagine the Christmas week causes people to be busier. (Anyone working retail, family events, etc...). But the week of New Years shouldn't have as much going on, because people only really do stuff on New Years for that week. So I figure an end-of-holiday day will have the least amount of busy people. Weekend before/after Christmas might prove harder to have people.

Actually Chalk the post can be interpreted the way I meant, as well as the way he meant. The only difference is reading my post I think it's pretty clear which one I was talking about. And also realizing it's a holiday tournament, I think that makes it even more clear. So my post was perfectly fine, and my response to stupidity was equally justified.

I thought you made a post about quitting the game, making fun of the people who play still? Oh, deleted it and didn't quit. Okay.

If Jan 3-4 don't work, I'm ok with moving it.  I just want to have as many teams as possible attend.
