Build 009 Feedback
« on: March 09, 2004, 02:16:50 PM »
Update (for any version above build003):
http://www.fileplanet.com/dl.aspx?/planetquake/digitalpaint/paintball2_a3toa9_patch.zip

Full install:
http://www.fileplanet.com/dl.aspx?/planetquake/digitalpaint/paintball2_alpha009.zip

- Bugfix: Serverlist not showing any servers bug fixed.
- Bugfix: Mouse no longer trapped to the Paintball2 window when you alt-tab.
- Bugfix: Styled lights work now.
- Feature: cl_cmdrate isn't as choppy anymore and you can do all the trick jumps you could in Quake2.
- Feature: Mousewheel works with scrollable menu items (select widgets).

DirtyTaco reported some severe laggage with the new cl_cmdrate system.  It simulates dropping packets rather than just not sending them so the movement prediction works better, but that might cause some problems.  I'll have to see if I can get them tweaked out.  If you have a really high framerate, setting cl_maxfps to like 100 or 200 might help.  Eventually I'll get this completely framerate independent.

Well, at least that solve the problem to the no server showing thing. But is it any different from the last one?

I mentioned this in IRC but I'll put it here in case you missed it, the vsync widget in the video menu works to turn vsync on but doesn't turn it off again.

vsync is a weird thing -- it won't even turn on at all on my other system.  More of a driver issue, I think.

Botmale?  Where?  Hehe, "You've bot male!"

I found the new build to be laggy.. Not sure if this is network wise or video card wise..  I noticed a few others saying the same thing. It felt as if a slight motion blur was on as well.. but I checked it and it said it was at 0. Maybe skipping frames is a better example.. things went by fast but you missed part of the show.

Yeah, I need to work on that.  Stupid q2 networking code.

sometimes the new build tries to check for a new version to planetquake.com/digitalpaint...but never gets through.

Shouldn't do that unless you don't have build 8 or 9 installed...

Oh, were you trying to play locally?  The server "build" cvar and the client "build" cvar conflict when you do this.  I thought I fixed it for build 9, but maybe not.  It's fixed for the next build, anyway.

Basically all these problems that everyone else has stated, i have experienced too.  So yeah, fix them =)

Also I have noticed that I have problems with alt-tabbing out.  My whole system will freeze for a while or worse I have to reboot.  This could be a problem with windows or telling me that I need a hardware upgrade, but I used to have absolutely no problems with this before.  And I'm actually probably using less overall resources on this machine now since I have 2 other computers to use IRC and IM on.  Just wondering if anyone else has had this problem too, maybe DP is more resource hungry nowadays =]

why would you want to alt tab out just make the screen size of the game not full screen.  then if you dont want it on your screen just click the bar on top and drag it to the cornor of the screen and there it goes

Because isnt full screen mode better?  The point is that i never had this problem before.  I have a Radeon 7200.  Yes I know i need to upgrade, but my whole computer needs upgrading and that costs money that i just dont have right now.  I had this Radeon for a long time though and it has been great for the most part.
